My father constructed a negative mold backplate for cast flywheel housings. Using dowels to orient the flywheel housing, he machined several of them with precision on a Bridgeport and a lathe. As a master artisan, he passed on the plate to me, and I leveraged my skills to program a three-set CNC machining process for the flywheel housing.
