Engine Overhaul :Willy Jeep

This old machining project suffers from low-quality video and photographs. The project involved working on a Willy Jeep engine block that presented clearance issues on the conversational machines. Despite having a vertical carousel, even the Haas machine was not large enough to accommodate the block. However, with a bit of cleverness and the use of an M36 spinning technique to retract the spindle above the home position, the block was successfully fitted on the machine.

The machining process included valve seat machining and cylinder boring. New cylinders were then pressed into the engine block, and valve seats were turned and hammered in with the correct preload. The engine block was re-installed for a second time on the Haas machine to face the surfaces and rebore to the correct piston size.

To achieve final tolerances, the engine block was removed from the Haas machine and placed on a Sunnen Hone machine. After honing, the block was thoroughly cleaned in preparation for assembly.
